.V.R.C. MEETING CAESAR WINS ASCOT VALE STAKES United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 4, 8.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 4. The weather was fine and there was a large attendance at the third day of the V.R.C. meeting to-day. Soloist, which had every chance tn the Autumn Hurdles, was beaten for third place in the last stride. He will find it difficult to win here, as to-day’s field was weak. Prince Quex was a certainty beaten in the Elms Handicap. He was last at the straight entrance but finished brilliantly. Caesar outclassed his opponents in the Ascot Vale Stakes. He has now had two wins and two seconds in four starts. He races in the same Interest as Fidelity, winner of the race last year.

Demotic enhanced his Cup prospects by a brilliant finish in the River Handicap, in which El Senorlta lad always. Gay Blonde ran a fair race but was troubled by weight. Jilt had a comfortable win in the Hopeful Stakes. El Meynelle and Princess Quex were never dangerous. Quasimodo finished fast to set a Flemington record and equal the Australasian record in the first division of the Welter Handicap. Evening Mist had a comfortable win in the second division of the Welter Handicap. Country Party had every show. Treasure Trove was never dangerous. Results:—
