HIGH SCHOOL OLD GIRLS

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A SUCCESSFUL YEAR Gratification at the success of last year, and a hope that the coming 12 months would be even more successful, was expressed at the annual meeting of the Timaru High School Old Girls’ Association, which was well attended on Wednesday night. The president (Miss Isa Young) presided. President’s Review The president expressed pleasure at the attendance and referred to the success of the past year, for which she had to thank the committee and all old girls who had supported the various functions. The musical circle suffered a great loss when Miss Adelaide Allchurch received notice of her transfer to Wanganui, and the thanks of the Association were due to Misses Doreen Andrew's and Betty Holdgate for their interest in the circle. It was very gratifying to find that the Christchurch and Dunedin branches were maintaining their interest. It was with regret that the Association learned that Miss Barr had to have further leave of absence last year, but it was with real delight that it welcomed her return. Miss Barr and the members of the staff had taken a keen interest in the Association, and this had been greatly appreciated. This’ year would see changes in the executive officers. Miss Clare Morton was leaving Timaru, and Misses Margaret Martin and Cora Stevens, secretary and treasurer respectively, were not seeking re-elec-tion. The year had proved a very enjoyable one, and the president thanked one and all for the splendid support to her. Annual Report The annual report said that the membership was 223, including the Christchurch and Dunedin branches. During the year the Association was sorry to lose one of its vice-presidents, Miss Adelaide Allchurch, who was transferred to Wanganui. As it was approaching the end of the year, the executive thought it unnecessary to elect a successor. Before Miss Allchurch left, the presentation of a leather music case was made t'- her in appreciation of her services on the committee, and as conductor of the musical circle. Two general meetings and eight committee meetings were held during the year. Mrs F. A. Raymond gave a most interesting address on “Child Welfare Work.” From the two sub-association reports, they were progressing very satisfactorily. The Association would like to congratulate the Basketball Club on its very successful year. The A grade team won the senior competition, the King’s Birthday tcirnament and the Waimate Silver Jubilee Cup. Five girls, Muriel Young, Marion Browne. Tftlen Smith, Beth Drennan and Doris Strachan, gained SmHh tive honours. Both the Play Reading Circle and the Musical and Glee Circles had been very well attended. Two bridge evenings were held—one at Beverley House, and the other at the South Canterbury Women’s Club Rooms. Mr and Mrs Hogg were thanked for their kindness. All Old Girls’ were circularised regarding the prize fund and this met with an excellent response. On School sports night the annual re-union dinner was held in the Bay Tearooms, and with the large number present proved most enjoyable. Congratulations were extended to Miss Barr and the members of the staff on the very excellent examination results obtained in 1936, and the executive would like to express its warmest thanks to Miss Barr and the staff for the kindly interest that they had taken in the Association throughout the year. Thanks were extended to Mr F. G. M. Raymond for the use of his office for committee meetings, Mr J. G. Duncan for auditing the books, and all those who had actively supported the Association during the year. Miss Isa Young moved the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet. The motion was seconded by Miss Clare Morton, and carried. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted:— Patroness, Miss J. R. Barr; president, Miss Isa Young; vice-presidents. Misses Mavis Bowen and Margaret Martin; secretary, Miss Violet Chamberlain; treasurer, Miss Muriel Young; committee, Misses N. Hogg, M. Wotherspoon, D. Andrews, J. Miller, I. Leggott and J.
