WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The annual meeting of the Arundel Women’s Institute was held in the Howard Hall. There was a fair attendance. Two new members were elected. The balance-sheet was received and adopted. Two minutes’ silence was observed out of respect to the late Mrs Bibby. Mrs Brown, of Geraldine, then took the chair from the retiring president, Mrs Wooding. Mrs Brown called for nominations for the committee, the following being elected: President, Mrs Wooding; secretary. Miss H. Pratt; treasurer, Miss E. Edwards; committee, Mesdames Wooding, Pratt, N. Brown, Black, Ambler and Johnston, Misses H. Pratt, E. Edwards, E. McCully, J. Galletly and H. Pithie; competitions, Mrs H. Black; social halfhour, Miss N. Pithie; badges, Miss E. McCully; hostesses, Mrs N .Brown. Mrs Brown presented prizes won during the year to the following: Best programme for 1936, Miss E. McComb; bowl autumn flowers, Mrs Matheson; bowl of roses. Miss J. Galletly; bowl of chrysanthemums. Miss J. Galletley; five apples, Mrs N. Brown and Miss D. Johnston (equal) 1; three beetroot, Mrs N. Brown, 1; paper flowers, Mrs Matheson, 1; chutney, Miss E. McCully; seed cake, Mrs Brown and Mrs Pratt (equal) 1; seed chrome work, Mesdames Brown and Johnston and Miss D. Johnston (equal) 1; smocking, Miss H. Pithie; worked tray cloth, Mrs Black; worked edge on tray cloth, Mrs Brown; collection of primroses, Miss D. Johnston; orange cake, Miss H. Pratt; heaviest hens’ eggs, Mrs McMaster; jam jar, spring flowers, Mrs Johnston; bouquet flowers, wired, Mrs N. Brown; not wired, Mrs Ambler; bowl of flowering shrubs, Mrs Ambler; Xmas present, not more than 1/-, Mrs N. Brown; sponge roll, Mrs N. Brown and Miss D. Johnston (equal) 1; collection of vegetables, Mrs Ambler; cup for most points gained during the year, Mrs N. Brown; Mrs Pithie’s special for runner-up, Mrs Johnston; Mrs Wooding’s speciaj for most points in junior members. Miss D. Johnston; programme for 1937, Miss E. McComb; Competitions for the day were won as follows: Ginger cake, Mrs N. Brown and Mrs A. Brown (equal) 1; collection of fruit, Mrs Johnston; best bloom, Mrs Johnston. The competitions for next month are as follows: Lady’s spray, gentlemen’s buttonhole, and nut loaf.
