SOUTH CANTERBURY CREAM SUPPLY
To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald." Sir, —In your issue of February 26, I noticed a letter from “Disgusted Supplier” who expressed dissatisfaction at the sale of the Clandeboye goodwill to the Ashburton Co-operative Company Limited. As he says, the suppliers were not consulted before the agreement was made. However “Disgusted Supplier” can rest assured that by now the suppliers are fairly well informed in the matter, and make no secret of the fact that they have no intention of supplying the Ashburton Company. Although it is very plain for the farmers of South Canterbury to see that through this little scheme the Ashburton Co-operative Company Limited hope to eventually gain control of the cream supply from the Rakaia to the Waitaki, and oust the local companies, along with their employees. Has it been brought under the notice of our local Members of Parliament, Messrs. Clyde Carr, T. D. Burnett and D. Barnes? Now, sir, our South Canterbury factories, an asset, as you must agree, to their respective towns have rendered us yoeman service for many years including those of the slump, and I consider they are entitled to receive the first consideration under any scheme for the rationalisation of the industry in this district.—l am, etc., A FARMER WHO KNOWS. St. Andrews, March 1.
