VISIT TO EAST COAST MAORIS Br TelegrnnhGISBORNE. March 3 The unusual experience of being landed in a surf boat was Accorded the Governor-General (Vlscouht Galway), yesterday, when he left the Government steamer Matai at Hicks Bay and proceeded to Tikitiki to present the Bledisloe Cup for the most efficient Maori farmer, to Mr Henry DeWes, and the award for runner-up to Mr Robert Clarke. The vice-regal party was welcomed in typical native maimer by a large gathering. Replying to the speeches, his Excellency spoke of the favourable impression obtained of the district through which they had passed. He congratulated the winner of the trophy, and said the result of the competition showed that Maori farmers could reach a high standard. At the conclusion of the proceedings at Tlkitlkl, the party proceeded to Te Puia, where much interest Was Shown in the hot springs and natural gas supply, and later re-embarked on the Matai at Tokomaru Bay. Lord and Lady Galway and family arrived to-day on ah informal visit. They will leave to-morrow for Wellington.
