MEETING OF COUNCIL At the Council meeting of the W.E.A., Mr S. A. Odell presided over a fair attendance. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr G. Chapman, expressing the Council’s regret at his illness, and similarly to Mr Bowker and a letter of congratulation to Mr J. Johnson, M.A., on his being awarded a Carnegie Travelling Scholarship. A general discussion took place on the programme for the coming year, and it was decided to recommend to the Tutorial Committee of Canterbury College that classes should be held in public speaking, social problems, dramatic production and dietatics, and the secretary was instructed to communicate with possible tutors, that their names might be forwarded to Christchurch for the approval of the Tutorial Committee. Some discussion took place on the probable demolition of the building, and the secretary was instructed to make inquiries; also improvement in the lighting was considered.
