David Jones, ex-captain of the Columbia and Cambridge tennis teams, in an interview said: “I believe that Australia will win the Davis Cup, although the competition ought to be peculiarly close, because each big four has only one dependable singles player. I think Australia with Quist has probably the best all round amateur of the present day. He is equally good in doubles, and I think that Crawford at a pinch can really produce one victory.”
