Brief showers of rain fell during the morning and the temperature was cool. A southerly wind was blowing. Rain began to fall on Tuesday evening, and for a time came down heavily. Thirty-two points were recorded up to 9 a.m. Geraldine—Heavy rain in early morning; showery during the day. Rainfall at "Waitu,” 85 points. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General Situation—A narrow area of relatively .low pressure still covers the Dofniniorf, but an intense anticyclone over the Western Tasman Sea, centred near Tasmania, appears to be extending eastward. Winds—South-easterly to southerly, li'ht to moderate, but freshening somewhat. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Slight to moderate, but rising in Cook and Foveaux Straits and south of Castlepoint. Eastern Tasman Sea—South-east-erly winds, force moderate, with moderate seas, but wind and sea increasing in the southern half. Weather—Fine on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere changeable with scattered showers, some heavy rain probable in the far north; conditions gradually improving, except in the eastern and northern portions of the North Island; temperatures cool.
