OWEN’S FIRST EFFORT AS PROFESSIONAL United Press Association—By Electric Tel egraph—Copyright (Received December 27, 6.30 p.m.) HAVANA, December 26. Owens, the Olympic champion, in an initial professional appearance, receiving 40 yards handicap, defeated a racehorse in a 100 yards dash, by 20 yards, in 9.9 seconds. Owens said he was satisfied with his Peroy performance, and was confident he could defeat all but the fastest horses from scratch.
