The Vatican’s hopes for the recovery of Pope Pius dwindled to-night. It is reported that paralysis has extended to his entire left side. The Pope’s arm is useless and he was unable to move Iris legs throughout the day. The Pope passed a disturbed night owing to intermittent pains in his left leg, but he slept well on Into the morning. His condition is generally satisfactory. His Holiness received hundreds of telegrams of congratulation on his Christmas Eve broadcast, which far from exhausting him, apparently stimulated the Pope owing to the psychological effect of being again in touch with the outside world.
