A TIMELY RESCUE SEQUEL TO COLLISION By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, December 27. One person was admitted to hospital and several others received minor injuries as a result of a collision on the Waterfront Road at Orakei about 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. A passenger in one car, Mrs L. Derrick, of Ponsonby, suffered head injuries and shock. The driver. N. Walker, of Kohimarama, Mrs Walker, their infant son, and another passenger. Miss B. Green, all received cuts or shock. The car burst into flames and Mrs Derrick, who had been thrown forward through the windscreen, was lifted clear just in time. The driver of a motor-bus stopped and put out the fire with an extinguisher, but the collision and flames had damaged the car extensively. All the injured persons were taken to hospital in the ambulance, but with the exception of Mrs Derrick they were ablt to proceed home after receiving medical attention. Four occupants in the other car were not injured. They were questioned by the police. An arrest was subsequently made, and a man will appear in the Magistrate's Court on a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a car. SIX PERSONS INJURED By Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON NORTH, Dec. 26. Six people were admitted to hospital as the outcome of accidents which occurred in Manawatu over Christmas. The worst accident happened when two cars collided on the FoxtonShannon road on Christmas Eve, when four people were injured. Mr Stanley Silk, farm manager. Foxton, suffered head injuries; Mrs Silk, a fractured right leg and arms injured; Thomas Ropohama, of Shannon, a fractured left leg, jaw and right arm; Iraia Muhu, face injuries and shock. An unidentified middle-aged man is seriously ill in hospital from head injuries, the result of being knocked down by a motor-cycle at the Racecourse comer after the trotting meeting on Saturday evening. He is believed to be R. Stewart, of Christchurch. The cycle was ridden by Lawrence Fisher, of Christchurch, whose wife was on the pillion. Both suffered injuries, necessitating 24 hours’ stay in hospital. CAR GOES OVER BANK By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, December 26 A car driven by Kenneth George Apia Callingham went over a bank in the Taita Gorge yesterday morning. Brian Douglas Caflingham (13) was severely cut on tjhe arms and legs.
