ACCOMMODATION TAXED
MANY VISITORS AT HOTELS Not for some years have the local hotels had their accommodation so severely taxed as at present. Visitors from all parts of the Dominion began to arrive last Monday and since then all houses have been particularly busy. Guests during the week-end were:— Crown Hotel: Messrs R. Gunn, J. Gregg, Eathorne, Berryman and K. Stavis, Mr and Mrs Ireland, Misses Ireland, and Mr Jenkins, Messrs Campbell and Huddleston, Mr and Mrs Hastie, Mr and Mrs Gibb (Dunedin); Mr Buchanan, Mr and Mrs Stitchbury, Mr and Mrs Cunningham and family, Miss Gray, Mr Hine, Mr and Mrs and Brown (Christchurch); Mr and -Mrs Deaker (Wellington); Mr Nolan (Waimate). Royal Hotel: Mr McKenzie (Wel-
lington), Miss Davison, Mr and Mrs McDonald (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs Crisp (Dunedin), Mr Patrick (Blenheim). Messrs Smart and Bennett (Peel Forest). Temuka Hotel: Messrs Hennessy, Nicholas and Ross, and Mr and Mrs Harvey (Dunedin); Mr Sole (Wallington) ; Mi' Daly (Invercargill); Messrs Earl and Collins (Christchurch); Mr Davis (Cromwell). BOXING DAY Except for the motor traffic north and south, Temuka was practically deserted on Boxing Day. Usually the town is thronged with people on the day after Christmas Day, visitors from the country and from other parts of South Canterbury coming to the Caledonian sports. On Saturday many people took advantage of the excursion train running to Ashburton for the races, while others went picnicking. In the evening the Caledonian Society held its annual Cinderella dance, there being a good attendance of local dancers. Music was provided by a Timaru orchestra and Mr W. Seeler was master of ceremonies.
