OTAGO FULL BACK
TRANSFER OF J. TAYLOR J. Taylor, who played so brilliantly as the Otago full-back in the Ranfurly Shield matches during the past season, has been transferred from Dunedin to take up a position on the railways staff at Hampden, North Otago. Taylor’s display throughout the season was of a particularly high standard, and never once did he fail as the “last line of defence.” His performance must merit his consideration by the New Zealand selectors as a strong candidate for All Black honours next year.
Taylor, who is a popular member of Pirates Club, first represented Otago in 1933, and has continued to represent the province each year since then. In 1933 he played eight games for Otago, in 1934 one, in 1935, five, and this season he was the full-back in all of the nine games played by the representative side, eight of those matches being Ranfurly Shield encounters.
Taylor was met by members of the Pirates Club, and on their behalf Mr Douglas M. Spedding presented him with an attache case. Warm tributes were paid not only to Mr Taylor’s outstanding ability as a player, but also to his value and popularity as a member of the club.
