BOXING DAY HOLIDAY
NO PROVISION FOR TRANSFER Bv Telecrapb—Hress Association WELLINGTON, November 26. This year Boxing Day falls on Saturday, and those employees who are working under the fly* day week will not benefit from the statutory provision which stipulates that Boxing Day shall be regarded as a general holiday. When statutory holidays occur on a Sunday they are generally aobserved on the following Monday, This is the case for example, in the conditions governing the employment of shop assistants, but there is no provision for the transfer of the statutory holiday from Saturday except in the Butchers’ Award, which provides that if their half-holiday falls on a statutory holiday they must be given an extra half-holiday in either the preceding or subsequent week.
