THE BASIC WAGE
AN AUCKLAND OPINION By Teleeraoh—Press Association AUCKLAND, November 26. The opinion that the Government should take steps to fix a basic wage instead of leaving it to the Arbitration Court is gaining ground in union circles in Auckland. Some unionists consider that the Government made a mistake in delegating its powers to the Court, but it was not too late to remedy the position. Representations are likely to be made to Cabinet and meanwhile the Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union intend demanding the same cish basic rate as provided for other workers.
