CORRESPONDENCE
STAFF AT OUTSIDE GATHERINGS
To the Editor ol • The Timaru Heraio Sir, —A letter has appeared in your journal complaining about certain men being employed at race meetings, shows, etc. If the writer of the letter took the trouble to inquire before rushing into print, he would find that a good percentage of the men are employed through the local labour bureau, and as for the others, they are men who have been employed by the respective bodies in some cases for upwards of twenty years, and are men of experience at their respective jobs. These societies would be very loth to part with their old hands, and I am sure that not many of the unemployed would, under the circumstances, be willing to take their jobs. If “Fair Play” desires a job, let him apply through the proper quarter for the same, and if he has the ability he will probably get a place. It would be very interesting to know if he has already tried.—l am, etc.. RELIEF WORKER.
