WAIHAO TENNIS SUBASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Waihao Lawn Tennis Sub-Association was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Friday evening. Mr E. W. Murphy presiding over a full attendance of delegates. The Hunter Club was granted affiliation. The annual report (previously published) and balance sheet were read and adopted. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr G. Dash; president, Mr E.' W. Murphy; vice-presidents, Dr. T. W. Wylie and Mr G. R. Watters; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Aitken; assistant secretary, Mr M. Leonard: management committee, Messrs S. J. Blair (Morven), S. J. Cox (Willowbridge), M. Leonard (St. Patricks), R. Cochrane (Ikamai), E. Wilkin (Hook), W. Ruff (Glenavy), F. Draffin (Makikihi), E. C. Wright (Waihao Dowirs), B. Edwards Studholme), O. Veitch (St. Paul’s), R. Lane (Waimate), and E. Morrison (Hunter); selection committee, Messrs S. J. Blair, R. Lane and J. Anstey; executive committee and regrading committee, president, secretary, and Mr G. R. Watters. Competition entries were received as follows:—Morven one B and one C. Willowbridge one B and one C, St. Patrick’s one B and one C, Ikawai two C, Hook one C, Glenavy one B and one C, Makikihi one B and one C, Waihao Downs one C, Studholme one C, St. Paul’s one C, Waimate Two B. Hunter one B, High School one B. Opening day for the C grade competition was set down for October 17. the opening date for the B grade competition being left in the hands of the management committee. It -was decided to play both competitions in sections as last year, a motion to make one draw for each competition and to play weekly matches being defeated. Makikihi and Waimate were declared to be joint holders of the B grade cup for the 1935-36 season. A codified set of rules submitted by a sub-committae set up for the purpose was approved. It was agreed that affiliation fees be payable on the same basis as last year.

It was moved as a recommendation to the management committee that as soon as possible after the conclusion of the competitions a social be held at which the various trophies could be presented. After considerable discussion it was decided to run championship tournaments in. singles, doubles and combined doubles, setting aside one day for the singles’ championships and playing the other competitions by mutual ar■rangement between players during the season. It was decided to seek representative matches with North Otago and the Southern Sub-Association. SUMMER SPORTS OFFICIAL OPENINGS Ideal weather prevailed on Saturday for the official openings of various summer sports clubs. There was a large attendance at the Waimate Tennis Club, including visitors from neighbouring clubs. Mr M. D. Ross, president, extended a welcome to members and visitors, and particularly to Messrs McDougall and Knowles, of the North Otago Association. In officially declaring the courts open, Mr McDougall took the opportunity of presenting the A. grade shield to Mr G. R. O’Malley, captain of the Waimate Club, and congratulated the club on its fine record in the competition. Mr McDougall commented that the lay-out and appearance of the Waimate Club courts would hardly be surpassed by any other club in New Zealand. The official opening set comprised Miss E. Balkie and Mrs R. Deacon, of Waimate, and Messrs McDougall and Knowles, of Oamaru. St. Paul's Club There was a good attendance also at the opening of St. Paul’s Club at Victoria Park. Tire president, Mr R. H. White welcomed those present and called upon the Deputy-Mayor, Mr W. G. Paul, to declare the courts open. Other speakers were the Rev. H. L. Richards and Mr E. W. Murphy, president of the Waihao Sub-Association. St. Paul’s Croquet Club At the opening of St. Paul’s Croquet Club, the president, Mrs F. Nash, welcomed the visitors, including some from Timaru, and expressed the hope that the players would have a pleasant season. The Rev. H. L. Richards spoke, and expressed pleasure at the appearance of the greens. The Mayor (Mr G. Dash) officially declared the greens open for play. He paid a tribute to the great work done by the late Rev. Bramwell Scott in laying out and preparing the greens. The Mayoress played the first ball and was presented with a bouquet of freesias and narcissi by Mrs Nash.
