A further step in Marton’s progress was taken this afternoon when a Creed teleprinter was officially opened at the Post Office in the presence of a representative gathering. The Mayor (Mr F. Purnell) congratulated the department on its progress, and sent the first telegram to the Post-master-General expressing appreciation of the modem ’nstallation and receiving a reply from the Minister. The president of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr H. H. Richardson) also spoke and sent a telegram to the Director-General (Mr G. McNamara) receiving a simultaneous reply. Other speeches were given by Mr vV. G. Cooper (Chief Postmaster, Wanganui), Mr C. W. Hawk (forme’ - ’-’egraph superintendent) and Mr F. C. Centry (telegraph engineer).
