The “Daily Mail” in a special article, says that with the exception of the permanent O.G.P.U. detachment in Britain, and four Stalin fanatics, the whole Russian colony in London is panic-stricken. The majority have been subjected to gruelling examinations by the Soviet. An engineer has already postponed three times an appointment with a big British firm to discuss a large contract. He has been questioned by the O.G.P.U. agents for 36 hours, and is now under medical treatment. The Soviet colony has abandoned every vestige of gaiety or social life. They refuse to answer telephone calls, and have cut themselves off from their friends here. The third degree operates at the Soviet Embassy day and night, experts trying to obtain confessions regarding the Trotsky-Zinoviev conspiracy and the revolutionary plot in the Red army, which is alleged to have originated, and had been financed in the London Embassy. TROTSKY UNDER GUARD NORWAY IGNORES SOVIET United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright OSLO, August 31. An Order-in-Council states that the Cabinet has decided that M. Trotsky and his wife shall be isolated and guarded. Visitors may be received only after permission is granted by the passport department. M. Trotsky and his wife may not use a telephone, and letters and telegrams must be supervised.
