POLISH GESTURE TO FRANCE
MILITARY ALLIANCE PLANNED REACTION TO GERMAN REARMAMENTS REPORTED BIG LOAN FOR ARMAMENTS United Press Association—B® Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received September 1, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 31. The Paris correspondent of “The News Chronicle” says: General Rydzsmigly is discussing a French loan of £48,000,000 to finance Polish rearmament, of which 80 per cent can be spent on armament contracts with France and the remainder devoted to the construction of armament factories. It is understood that France is listening sympathetically because refusal would risk throwing Poland into the arms of Germany. The restoration of the Franco-Polish alliance is believed to be the underlying objective of the brief visit of General Rydzsmigly, Inspector-General of the Polish Army, who interviewed M. Leblum and M. Delbos (Minister of Foreign Alairs). Well-informed circles state that General Rydzsmigly gave France important assurances, foreshadowing an important change in Poland’s foreign policy. “Midi” says: “Poland is very disturbed over German rearmament and is ready to seek new military guarantees from France. We must do everything possible to see that General Rydzsmigly returns to Warsavz with the feeling of success.” General Rydzsmigly later left for Rheims to watch the French army manoeuvres.
