MATCH AGAINST NORTH AUCKLAND

TO-MORROW’S ATTRACTION AT FRASER PARK

The North Auckland representative Rugby touring team, which will play South Canterbury at Fraser Park tomorrow, arrived in Timaru from Ashburton yesterday. The party comprises 23, including the manager (Mr W. Kelly), and the coach (Mr K. Ifwerson), the former Auckland and All Black five-eighth and centre. The team held a practice at Fraser Park yesterday afternoon. South Canterbury Team The following will represent South Canterbury in the match to-morrow;— Full-back: G. Gaffaney. Three-quarters—E. Ryan, A. Gaffaney, T. Morrison. Five-eighths—R. Lundy, G. King. Half-back—G. Wright. Forwards—P. McShane, T. Gunn,.A. Higginbottom, J. Strang, W. Robertson, F. Thomson, H. Graham, G. T. Adkins. Reserves —Forwards, D. O’Sullivan, G. Vucetich; backs, J. Heasley. C. Cartwright and K. McPhail were not available owing to Injuries. The team is the same as that which played in the second half of the match against Southland at Invercargill on Saturday, after King had replaced Cartwright at second five-eighths.

OTAGO THE BEST CANTERBURY CAPTAIN’S GOOD WISHES “The game to-day was similar to the one we played against Ulster in Ireland,” said J. Manchester, captain of the Canterbury team after the match on Saturday. “I have no doubt that Otago is the best team in New Zealand, and I wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the season, and hope that they will keep the Shield in the South Island.”

The Otago captain (J. Hore) thanked Manchester for his wishes, and added that the game had been a good one.

Long Service to Rugby. Two men whose services to the Rugby game will rank comparison anywhere are Messrs H. H. Harris and A. J. Geddes. Both have held the position of president of the New Zealand Rugby Union and both have been president of their respective unions on many occasions—Mr Harris of the Otago Rugby Union and Mr Geddes of the Southland Rugby Union. Mr Harris has been 40 years a member of the Otago Rugby Union, Mr Geddes a member of the Southland Rugby Union for 34 years. Both have been New Zealand selectors and have piloted New Zealand teams overseas. Mr Geddes managed the All Blacks to Australia in 1934, Mr Harris was comanager of the New Zealand Maori team on its tour of France and England in 1926.

The New Zealand Rugby ‘earn will have a new leader in the first test match against Australia at Wellington on Saturday. The management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union has appointed J. L. Griffiths (Wellington) captain and R. R. King (West Coast) deputy-captain.
