SENSATIONAL CHASE
SHOTS FIRED By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, August 31. There was a sensational motor chase early this ifloming. When a police patrol car containing a detective nd two constables was cruising along the Ponsonby Road, the erratic movements of a five-seater tourir~ car aroused suspicions. On being followed the touring car speeded up, the chase continuing through Sandringham, Mt. Albert to Avondale where the pursued car turned down a blind road. It :s alleged that just before it stopped one of the two youthful occupants opened a side door, pointed a revolver at the occupants of the police car and then made off in the darkness. It is stated that a detective, with a view to forcing the runaways to stop, fired several shots into the air. After hours of search, a youth suspect was found making towards the main road and taken to the police station. Later the second suspect was found at nis home in Mt. Albert and the alleged revolver was found in his possession The touring car was identified as the property of Mr Sydney Tew, of Mt. Albert, which disappeared during the night while parked outside the house. As both suspects are under 17 they were net arrested but allowed to return to their homes. They will appear in the Children’s Court.
