BIG VOTE EXPECTED
FUTURE CONTROL OF POWER SUPPLY
By Telegraph—Press Association INVERCARGILL, August 31
A referendum to decide the future control of the electric power supply in Southland is expected to be closed before the end of September and the final result should be known very shortly after the end of the month. Although the final arrangements for the taking of the poll have not yet been completed, considerable progress has been made with preparations for it, and it is hoped that every ratepayer will have received his voting paper within three weeks. More than 21,000 ratepayers owning property within the board’s area are to be circularised, and local bodies expect that the total vote cast will be a very big one, possibly exceeding 16,000 or 17,000.
