COMMUNITY DRAMA

SOUTH ISLAND ELIMINATION FINAL At the Theatre Royal to-morrow evening at 7.30, four plays that have been chosen by the judges of the festivals of community drama in Christchurch, Timaru and Dunedin, will compete for the right to represent the South Island at the national final of community drama being held in Dunedin on Friday evening. Two plays will be chosen in the North Island, and they will meet the winner of the South Island elimination final, for Dominion honours. Keen interest has been aroused in South Canterbury in the presentation of the plays tomorrow night, particularly in view of the consistently high standard maintained in South Canterbury, which has given this area representation in the national final for three successive years. This year, the following groups will be represented: Dunedin Repertory Society in “The Twelve Pound Look,” Wesley Players (Timaru) in “The 300th Performance,” Dunedin Players in “The Forest of Happy Dreams,” Canterbury College Drama Society in “The Bear.” These plays represent the cream of community drama in the South Island, as far as it is represented in the area festivals, and an interesting evening is assured. Mr Victor Lloyd, of Wellington, will act as judge. The box plan is now open at Begg’s, and in view of the interest aroused early booking is recommended.
