STRIKE AT NAPIER
By Telegraph —l’resp Association NAPIER, August 31. Seventy men engaged under No. 5 Scheme by the Napier City Council refused to start work this morning. They demand a 40-hour week, and intend to interview Mr J. S. Hunter, Secretary of Labour to-morrow. The Mayor (Mr C. O. Morse) said the work was non-essential end was provided by the Council in agreement with the authorities. One work held up was the preparation for the installation of the Parker Fountain recently presented to the town by Mr Tom Parker.
