QUEEN MART’S NEW RECORD United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, August 28. The Queen Mary on the second day completed 703 miles, at an average speed of 30.57, making a total of 1283 miles, with an average of 30.37. A message from New York on August 24 stated that the Queen Mary passed the Ambrose Light at 11.12 p.m. on August 23, New York summer time, completing a record run from Cherbourg breakwater in 4 days 7 hours 12 minutes. The average speed was 30 01 knots, compared with the Normandie’s best speed of 26.64 knots. The Queen Mary bettered her own previous record, established on July 26, by an hour. As the liner passed the Nantucket lightship in mid-afternoon she had averaged 30 08 knots, but a heavy fog on the Long Island coast somewhat retarded her. It was understood that the Cuna rd-White Star Company was prepared to claim the Atlantic blue riband.
