CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Yesterday dawned with a light shower of rain; the morning was cold and showery. The rain ceased in the afternoon but conditions remained overcast and chilly. Showery early, dull later. Temuka.—After 50 points of rain I yesterday morning dull and overcast weather was experienced. Temperatures were cool, the maximum being 46 degrees and the minimum 32. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday) : Thermometer, highest 58.2, lowest 38.1; rain, 0.15 inches; bright sunshine, 5 hours 2 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in the last 24 hours 54. Rain fell in the early part of the morning and showers fell throughout the day. Dunedin. — Though the morning broke fine after rain overnight the sky soon became cloudy and a light shower fell in the afternoon. There was no wind. Last night the sky was heavily overcast but the barometer was rising. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General situation.— An extensive though rather shallow cyclone is centred over the central portion of the Tasman Sea, while a moderate anticyclone extends across Tasmania on Lo the South Tasman. Pressure is rather high also to the north of New Zealand. Winds.—Moderate to strong northerly winds over the North Island, rising in places to gale force, variable at first in the south but freshening southerlies or south-easterlies soon prevailing and extending over the whole Dominion by Sunday. Seas (New Zealand waters) .—Rather rough to rough generally and later rising south of East Cape. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Strong northerly winds in the northern and central portions and south-easterlies in the southern, but southerlies becoming general within the next 24 to 36 hours. Weather.—Becoming unsettled, dull and misty with rain in most districts, heavy falls likely in the North Island and the northern and western parts of the South and snow on the ranges; temperatures becoming cold especially in the south.
