THE ROMERO-HENNEBERRY BOUT

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 23, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 23 The National Boxing Club at a board meeting decided to pay Romero his share of the purse for his contest against Fred Henneberry. One-third of Romero’s money has been deducted pending the Court’s decision on the dispute as to the alleged managership. The meeting also vetoed the announcement that the referee’s verdict had been converted into a “no , decision” and Henneberry has now been declared the winner. At the Stadium on August 17, Fred Henneberry (list 51b) received a decision on a foul in the twelfth round against Al Romero (list. 51b). The climax came in the twelfth round when Romero delivered a low blow, which doubled Henneberry up. An application was made in the Equity Court on August 18 for a temporary injunction to restrain the National Boxing Club from paying to Romero one-third of his share of the gate money. The application was made by Mr J. G. Riddle, as attorney for Albert Donaldson, of Los Angeles, claiming to be Romeros manager. It was alleged that Romero had contracted in 1934 to pay to Donaldson one-third of his earnings in all the contests arranged for him Romero, according to Donaldson, left America without the latter’s consent and entered into a contract with the National Boxing Club without making provision for Donaldson, as he was bound to do. The Court granted the < application.
