NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN

SOUTH CANTERBURY BRANCH Miss Lovell-Smith presided over the monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Branch of the National Council of Women of New Zealand. The following delegates were present.—Mrs G. A. Macdonald, representing the Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes, Mrs Sneddon, the Mary Raymond District Nurse Committee; Miss Fyffe, South Canterbury Women’s Teachers’ Association; Mrs Kemshed, Timaru High School Old Girls’ Associaton; Mrs Miller and Mrs Macalister, Women’s Christian Temperance Union; Mrs Evans and Mrs Hayhurst, Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Mrs T. E. Holdgate, Young Women’s Christian Association; Miss Mills, South Canterbury Women’s Club and Associate members, Mrs Harvey, Mrs Sweeney, Mrs Hardcastle, Mrs Walpole and Mrs Pottinger. A remit was received from the Dunedin Council asking for support in the request to the Government that an experienced women be included in the Housing Commission. It was decided to support the remit. Several remits for the Dominion Executive were considered, including ■ omen police, sewing in schools, election of school committees, equal pay for equal work. An extract from the International Bulletin was read commending the National Council of Women of New Zealand on their broadcasting talks on prominent women of the early days in New Zealand and also those of other countries.
