SHERWOOD TEACHER FAREWELLED MISS M. COOPER HONOURED 011" of the largest and most represent ive social gatherings ever assembled in the Sherwood Downs School, attended an evening on Wednesday night in honour of Miss Marjorie Cooper, who has resigned from the position of sole teacher at Sherwood Downs to take the appointment of sole teacher at Mona Vale. Mr G. Gallagher, chairman of the school committee, referred to the interest Miss Cooper had always taken in the school, and the satisfactory results she had obtained. On behalf of the residents of the district, he asked her tq accept a leather suit case and a manicure set as a token of the esteem in which she was held. Mr T. H. Moorhead, a past chairman of the School Committee, referred to the way Miss Cooper had always co-operated with the committee. She had been particularly interested in the tidiness of the school grounds and gardens, and in recognition of her work in that regard, the Canterbury Education Board had last year presented her with a merit card. Mr A. G. Reid, speaking on behalf of the Social Club, said the club was really indebted to Miss Cooper for its formation. Her interest and enthusiasm had been largely responsible for keeping it together. He asked her to accept a crystal vase as a token of the club’s appreciation. On behalf of the school children, Miss N. Anniss presented Miss Cooper with a pair of leather gloves. Mr A. G. Reid contributed songs during the evening, being accompanied by Miss M. Reid, and dance music was supplied by Miss Reid and Messrs N. Williams, T. Ellem and T. W. Ewart. Mr L. Ross was master of ceremonies.
