WAIHAORUNGA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
The August meeting of the Wailiaorunga Women’s Institute was held at the residence of Mrs Walter Armstrong, Miss M. Hurst presiding over a good attendance.. The delegates who attended the conference at Dunedin, Misses B. Whatman and M. Hurst, submitted a report on the proceedings, and were accorded a vote of thanks. A presentation Was made to Miss Mary Newall in view of her approaching marriage. It was decided to purchase a parcel of goods from the disabled soldiers. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Swainson and Hopper and Miss Whatman. Competitions resulted: Best woollen scarf, Mrs A. Armstrong 1, Mrs Deam and Mrs Burson (equal) 2; collection of scrap books for hospital (decision held over); best grown carrot, Mrs W. Armstrong 1.
