BASKETBALL
The first games in the Armstrong Cup competition, played by teams of the Clandeboye, Milford and Orton Club, are to take place on Thursday afternoon at Orton. The games are played on each of the home courts if the competitors in turn and will be conducted on a handicap basis as last year’s. The draw is: Milford v. Clandeboye A, Orton v. Clandeboye 3. A friendly game was played at Te Awa on Saturday between the recent’y formed local club and a team representing the Temuka Young Women’s Club. Owing to wet weather, the ground was not in a good condition, but nevertheless an interesting game resulted in a win for the visiting team by 26 goals to 11. Miss I. Ives was referee. Visitors and friends were afterwards entertained at afternoon tea, when an invitation for a return match Was extended.
