REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS MATCHES AT ASHBURTON A meeting of the management committee of the South Canterbury Hockey Association was held last evening, Mr A. W. Stead presiding. The New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association wrote requesting payment of arrears of affiliation fees, and stating that if they were not paid immediately the South Canterbury team’s entry in the New Zealand tournament would be refused. The chairman said that there was evidently an error as all fees had been paid as the receipts proved. It was decided to notify headquarters accordingly. The West Coast Association wrote accepting an invitation to play a game in Timaru on September 26. It was decided to accept the date. The secretary reported that final arrangements had been made for the representative fixtures with the Ashburton Association on Saturday. The matter of arranging a date for the Geraldine tournament was discussed, and it was decided to suggest Saturday, August 29. Mr W. Gow reported on the secondary schools’ tournament held last Saturday, stating that the fixture had been a success in every way. Unfortunately the Christchurch team had to withdraw, but the other teams had played splendid hockey. Otago High School proved the winners. The tournament had been the first one held, but it was hoped that the fixture would become an annual one. Permission was granted to the Craighead and Timaru teams to play a match on the Park on Saturday at 3 pan. The following have been selected to represent South Canterbury at Ashburton on Saturday: Men Goal: A. Cowles. Full-backs: S. Dobier, E. Saunders. Halves: J. Stone-Wigg (captain), H. Thomas, R.
