ST. ANDREWS

DRAMATIC CLUB The St. Andrews Dramatic Club recently presented four one-act plays before a packed hall. Selections were played by an orchestra comprising Misses Jacobs (Waimate), Miss Gladys Palmer (Waimate), and Mr Jacobs, junr. A vote of thanks was accorded the stage managers Messrs F. D. Martin, W. E. Mills, D. Bruce and J. Blank, also Messrs L. R. Bell and A. M. Copland, who had assisted greatly towards the success of the evening. The plays were: “A Little Bit of Fame and Glory,” the first play to be presented, takes place in Connie Higgin’s London Flat. The cast was: Annie (a maid), Miss Harion Hutton; Emma, Miss Eva Dash; Connie Higgins, Miss Kathleen Bishop; Grace Welcot (a reporter), Miss Marjorie Gray; Mrs Higgins (Connie’s aunt), Miss Daisy Bell; Paula Jean, Miss Joy Bennett; Fay Hazel, Miss Esmai Gray; Madam Karaski, Miss Carol Bell. “Shattered,” a drama, was a story of a married woman who had fallen in love with another man. The cast was: Marthe Ckenevray, Miss Gladys Copland; Marlette, Miss D. Knox; M. Jacques Revel, Mr R. Russell; M. Pierre Emagney, Mr Alan O’Neill; Jerome (a butler), Mr Cliff Bell. “A Few Essentials,” a farce, was an amusing story of misconceptions in regard to what “a few essentials are.” The cast was: Margaret, Miss Eva Dash; Joyce (her maid), Miss Marjorie Gray; Lennox (her husband), Mr Doug. Bruce; Parlous (his valet), Mr Clifford Bell. The final play of the evening was “The Message,” which concerned a threatening message from a revengeful criminal. The cast was: Sir James Lakington, Mr Bruce Hutton; Inspector Hudson (Scotland Yard), Mr Robert Gray; Richard Masson, Mr John Blank; a girl, Miss Marjorie Russell, j At the conclusion of the plays members of the club took the opportunity to present tokens of esteem to Mrs Mills (producer), and Mr Mills (president). Mrs Mills was one of the founders of the club in 1929, and since then her enthusiasm has grown with the club. Mrs Mills was asked to accept two books of plays and poems.
