MacGIBBON—HIATT

At St. Mary’s Church, Merivale, Christchurch, last evening, che wedding was solemnised of Austin Johnston, youngest son of Mr and Mrs John Mac Gibbon, Desmond Street, Fendalton, and Mary Frances, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Hiatt, Pahau Downs, Cuiverden. The Rev. E. N. Blakiston officiated, and Mr A. Worsley was organist. The bride was given away by her father and attended by Miss Betty Webb. Mr Creighton Wright was best man. Pink blossom arranged in the church made a lovely spring-like setting for the bridal group. The bride wore a charming frock of magnolia georgette mounted on satin in a deeper shade. The bodice was shirred to a low neckline defined by hand-made flowers of the same material, and the softly swathed belt was finished with a cluster of the same flowers at the back waistline. Angel sleeves flared gracefully from shirring at the elbow, and the full train was also flower-trimmed. Her veil of exquisite old lace was simply arranged to an orange-blossom head-dress, and fell to ground-length. Her bouquet of freesias was lightly touched with pink sweet peas. Her maid wore a frock of orchid pink satin-backed lame shadowchecked in gold. The pouched bodice had a low oval neckline, and the shirred shoulders were finished with pearl clips. The elbow-length sleeves were slashed revealing the satin lining. The skirt fell into a circular train and was trimmed at the back waistline with gold flowers. She wore pink sweet peas and bouvardias in her hair, and carried a sheaf of blue and gold irises and pink sweet peas. The reception was held at 20 Repton Street, the bride’s mother receiving the guests wearing a slightly trained frock of black cloque, with sleeves and cowled vestee of black lacquer lace. With this she wore a black coat and a fur felt hat trimmed with red roses, and her shoulder spray was of red roses. As the bridegroom’s mother was unable to attend through illness, her place was taken by her eldest daughter, Mrs J. O’Hara Tobin. Mrs Tobin wore a frock of heavy silk crepe patterned in a scattered sweet pea design on a black ground. The high neck was trimmed with a posy, and the slightly trained skirt was finished at the waist with a swathed belt. The bride’s travelling suit was smartly tailored in green flecked tweed. With it she wore a rust coloured crepe de chine blouse, and a green angora felt hat with a rust feather mount. The bride and bridegroom’s home will be at Silver Hill, Albury, South Canterbury.
