DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday)
General Situation—A series of rather intense westerly depressions continues to cross the Tasman Sea and the southern portion of the Dominion. Winds.—Moderate strong north-wes-terly to westerly reaching gale force at times about and south of Cook Strait, backing occasionally in places to southwesterly. Seas (New Zealand Waters).—Rather rough to rough on the West Coast, rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Moderate to strong west winds reaching gale force in the central and southern portions, seas rough. Weather. —Changeable and squally with rain in districts with a westerly aspect and the far north and south, some heavy falls in Westland; mainly fair in eastern areas, but with isolated showers possible; mild temperatures.
