DOCK EXTENSION

TENDER ACCEPTED By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND. February 11. The tender of W. Williamson, contractor, of Christchurch, at £2489 Vtr the work of extending the Calliope Dock was accepted by the Auckland Harbour Board today. The work, it is stated, will be begnn almost immediately. The extension to the dock is being made to accommodate the twj large new cruisers, Leander and Achilles, which are shortly to replace the Dunedin and Diomede on the New Zealand naval station. The plans provide for the lengthening of the dock floor by an additional 13ft, involving the excavation of about 1800 cubic yards of sandstone and concrete work which is to be completed within four months of the date of its commencement. It is part of the major scheme for improving the naval defences Gf New Zealand.
