DEFENCE OF CHINA
EFFECT OF BRITISH INFLUENCE. British Official Wireless RUGBY, February 4. In reply to questions on the situation in North China, Mr R. A. Eden (Foreign Minister), speaking in the House of Commons, gave a brief account of recent events, and added: “So far as I am aware. British interests in North China have not been materially affected by these developments. Meanwhile the Japanese Government are reported to have accepted the invitation from the Chinese Government to discuss outstanding questions between the two countries, and there is reason to hope that an effort will be made to regularise the position through diplomatic channels.”
