DR. SPROTT RETIRES

DEMONSTRATION OF ESTEEM By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, December 5. Regretful and affectionate leave of the Rt. Rev. Dr. T. H. Sprott and Mrs Sprott was taken by the people of the Anglican Church of the Diocese of Wellington at a valedictory gathering in the Town Hall this afternoon. The occasion marked the retirement of Dr. Sprott after almost 25 years in the Episcopate of Wellington. He and Mrs Sprott witnessed a remarkable demonstration of the esteem in which they are held, the concert chamber being filled by an assembly eager to convey sentiments of love for the ageing Bishop and his wife. Opportunity was taken to give tangible expression to the thoughts of the diocese, Dr. Sprott being presented with a wallet containing a substantial cheque representing contributions from members of the church in every part of the diocese. The ceremony was notable also for the presence of the leaders of other churches who joined in a united tribute of good will. Among those who attended was Archbishop O'Shea, who brought the good wishes of the Roman Catholic Church.
