CANTERBURY LAMB

QUALITY HAS NOT GONE BACK OTHER DISTRICTS HAVE ADVANCED By Telegraph—Press Association ASHBURTON, December 5. Mr R. s. Forsyth, London manager for the New Zealand Meat Producers Board, who gave his first address in the Dominion at a farmers field day at the Fairfield Freezing Works, said he would be very disappointed if New Zealand did not have a very good season in the next few months. Stocks in London in April had been very great but With the greater spending power of the people lately the consumption had greatly increased. This greater power followed the higher expenditure in armaments, so he took an optimistic view of the coming season. “But we must remember,” he said, “not to put the price too high, because the higher the price the less the consumption will be.” Regarding the quality of Canterbury lamb, Mr Forsyth stated that the English trade showed it was as good as in pre-war days. He thought that quality had not gone back, but had not gone forward. Other districts had gone ahead. When one left the Down cross out of the question, Canterbury was still supreme among the districts which sent away white-faced lambs. He wanted to make that plain. Mr Forsyth urged the greater use of Southdowns.
