Messrs H. W. Hunter, D. Todd (Wellington), and C. Jarvis (Dunedin) are guests at the Empire. Messrs R. Hislop (Auckland) and E. Lezard (Christchurch), are staying at the Dominion. Messrs T. M. Dunlop (Dunedin), C. C. Taylor and E. M. Taylor (Christchurch) are staying at the Dominion. Dr. P. P. Lynch, who was visiting his parents in Timaru, has returned to Wellington. A cable message from Suva reports that Councillor Alport Barker was reelected Mayor of Suva. The Rev. W. Pearson, who has been manager for the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd., at Westport, for the last 21 years, will retire on superannuation at the end of the year. Mr W. K. Gill, manager of the Masterton branch of the National Bank of New Zealand for the last four years, has received notice of his transfer to the management of the Blenheim branch. His successor will be Mr A. F. Stewart, of the Alexandra branch. At yesterday’s meeting of the Levels County Council, the chairman (Mr T. B. Garrick) made reference to the death of Earl Jellicoe. He said that Earl Jellicoe, when Governor-General of New Zealand, had taken a great interest in the country, and there was no doubt hat he had left his mark. A motion if condolence was carried in silence. At a farewell gathering to Mr W. Graham Bell on the occasion of his retirement from the position of manager of the Auckland branch of the National Insurance Company of New Zealand, Limited, members of the committee of the Underwriters’ Association presented him with a grandfather clock as a token of respect and esteem. Service with the firm of Wilson and Horton, Limited, for 56 years and continuous service lor almost 50 years has been renderel by Mr T. Cooper, who retired on Saturday on pension. During the whole of this period Mr Cooper has been employed as a hand compositor in the job-printing department. Mr Cooper was presented with a cheque on behalf of the firm, and with a smoker’s outfit by his fellowemployees.
