PEGGED EXCHANGE

AUSTRALIAN’S CRITICISM Bs Telee-anh press Association AUCKLAND, November 6. Criticism of the pegged exchange policy of the Australian and New Zealand Governments was expressed by Sir Frederick Tout, M.L.A., of New South Wales, who arrived by the Wanganella on a three weeks’ visit to New Zealand. A member of the principal board of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, he was met by Sir William Hunt, New Zealand chairman, and other executives, who will tour the Dominion. “Exchange is a proper leveller,” said Sir Frederick Tout, “and should find its own level commercially and not be pegged by governments.” Sir Frederick represented Australia at the Ottawa Conference. He said that the agreements had been beneficial to all primary and pastoral industries. He hoped that simiiar arrangements would be made in the future for Empire trade.
