Conditions very similar to those of Wednesday were experienced yesterday, when, after a sunny morning, a southwest wind blew up raw and cold, bringing with it a few light showers of ram. The records at the Timaru Gardens yesterday were:— Barometer—29.s4. Min. temp, on grass—32.4. Frost—Nil. Rainfall from 7 p.m. Wednesday—--0.311n5. Rainfall to date this year—l4.3sins. Rainfall to date last year—24.34ins. Sunshine—6.l hours. Sunshine to date this year—l4B4.7hrs Maximum temp— 51.8. IN OTHER CENTRES Ashburton —After the mild weather on Wednesday morning, a southerly storm was experienped in the eounty. Tffe wind swung to the south and brought heavy rain with it. The rain continued until late at night, and 75 points were registered in Ashburton. Snow fell in the higher districts, and the hills were well coated this morning. It extended almost down to Mayfield. In town yesterday a cold wind blew, but the sun shone in a cloudy sky. Conditions were still unsettled and showery. Geraldine— Air temperatures, min. 37, max. 67, at 9 a.m., 52; wind, fresh south-westerly; rainfall, 33 points. Variable conditions, fitful sunshine, showery with light hail shortly after midday. Temuka —Yesterday was dull with scattered showers after a heavy fall during the night. The rainfall for tlje 24 hours from 4 p.m. on Wednesday was .69in. The highest shade temperature yesterday was 53 degrees apd the lowest 30. There was a frost of 2 degrees. The glass last evening was risingWaimate —<24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday); Barometer, 29.90 (rising); thermometer, highest 60, lowest 39.7; rain, 50 points; wind gauge, miles run in previous 24 hours, 83; bright sunshine, 4 hours 25 minutes. Yesterday was bright in the morning but in the afternoon the sky became overcast apd heavy rain fell. / DOMINION METEOROLOGIST General Situation—Barometers are still rather low but the depression is moving eastwards and the anti-cyclone over the Tasman Sea is advancing towards the DominionWinds—Strong southerly to southwesterly of gale force at places but gradually moderating. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rough to high on the west coast of the North Island and south of Castlepoint, elsewhere rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea-43trong southwest winds with rough seas, but wind and sea soon decreasing. Weather —Cold, changeable and squally generally with passing showers, hail on parts of the East Coast and snow on some ranges, mainly fair, however, in Westland and conditions improving in most districts to-morrow; sharp inland frosts likely in the South Island.
