RUBBISH TINS
NEED FOR PROVISION OF LIDS A remit brought before the Council of the South Canterbury Chamber cr Commerce last night by the Junior Chamber of Commerce read: “That the Timaru Borough Council be asked to proceed with the policy of enforcing the placing of lids on all rubbish tins in the town area.” Mr P. W. ~'oi’~g said that some time ago the Borough Council made a round of the town in regard to the matter, but the object of the visit had been defeated because some retailers had not complied with the request. Since the matter had been placed on th* agenda, he knew of two members who had had lids placed on their tins. (Laughter.) Mr W. T. Ritchie said that ne thought they were starting at the wrong end. “You see that ghastly rubbish cart going round without a lid on, and you should get a lid on that first before getting his on the rubbish tins.”
