HARBOUR BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Timaru Harbour Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs T. B. Garrick (chairman), A. R. Guild, W. T. Ritchie, R. S. Goodman, K. Mackenzie, D. C. Turnbull, D. C. Kidd. W. Lindsay, H. M. Whatman, F. R. Flatman, W. H. Orbell, A. F. Campbell, I. J. Bradley and J. Scott. Financial Statement. The financial statement showed that receipts since last meeting totalled £4532 15s Id. Accounts to be passed that day amounted to £1909 8s 6d, leaving a credit balance of £4674 8s lid, as against £4456 11s 9d at June 30, 1934. Filling In Between Rails The secretary reported that four moveable gratings had been procured to place between the rails at a cost of £7 15s 6d, and these had been used in loading the Pakeha recently and had given every satisfaction. 20-Ton Crane In view of the appointment of an engineer, it was decided to hold over the question of the purchase of a 20ton crane. Unemployment Committee A letter was received from the local Unemployed Workers’ Union, advising of another meeting on July 23, to enable delegates to report the attitude of the bodies they represent, also a verbal application from the Mayor asking the Board to have one of its members on the Unemployment Committee. It was decided that no action be taken. Harbourmaster’s Report The harbourmaster (Captain H. C. White) reported that the arrivals for the month of June were 33 steam and motor vessels with an aggregate of 42,631 tons and the departures 34 steam and motor vessels with an aggregate of 42,921 tons.
