BOARD O" DIRECTORS The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Timaru' Y.M.C.A. was held last evening, Mr W. G. Irwin presiding. The general secretary, Mr F. E. S. Long, reported on the work of the Association amongst the youth of the district. All activities were well patronised. The Hi. Y Club, a special group for secondary school boys, had commenced its programme, and was filling a need in this section of the boys’ department. The boys’ work directors of Auckland and Hamilton had written suggesting a visit by their respective Associations in September. It was agreed that invitations be extended to visit Timaru during the next term holidays, the boys, about 40 in all, to be the guests of the Timaru Association. Twenty-five members of the boys’ department c.' the Timaru Association were leaving to-day for Dunedin to take part in the annual fixture between the Christchurch, Dunedin and Timaru Associations. The team would return on Monday. The chairman and directors present wished the team all good wishes for a happy time and success in their competitions. The physical director, Mr D. G. Papprill, reported on the physical activities of the Association. The total membership to date was 280, compared with 117 in May, 1934. Total attendances were 680 in April, 1935, compared with 285 in April, 1934. All classes were showing great keenness, the senior men’s, intermediate girls’, primary school girls’ and preparatory boys’ classes particularly so. Mr Papprill was complimented on the work of his department. Notification of the visit of Dr. T. Kagawa, of Japan, to Timaru on June 11, was received from the National Council. The general secretary reported that various groups to whom he had spoken on the projected visit of Dr. Kagawa had shown great interest and enthusiasm, and he strongly recommended that the offer of this visit be accepted. This was agreed to, and Messrs W. G. Irwin and David Byers, with the general secretary, were appointed to meet representatives of the Ministers’ Association and Y.W.C.A. vith regard to drawing up a programme of meetings, etc. The members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Association were complimented on the splendid result of the card evenings organised recently by them. It was reported that a Paddy’s Market would shortly be held by the Auxiliary to assist the funds of the Association.
