A NEW POSITION
ARMS ADVISORY OFFICER TO POLICE By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, May 14. Mr G. G. Kelly, of Auckland, has been appointed arms advisory officer to the Police Department with headquarters in Wellington, and will take up his duties on June 1. The position is a new one, and has been made necessary by the increase in work following the legislation of last year which placed on the police the responsibility not only of supervising the arms already in New Zealand but also new importations. All importers are now required to submit to the Department samples of weapons for approval before they are allowed to clear them from bond. Mr Kelly has had a long experience with small arms of all types, and on many occasions he has been called on by the police for expert advice. For many years he was associated with the Colonial Ammunition Co., Ltd., and more recently he has been managing director of Kelly, Ltd., of Auckland.
