VOCATIONAL WORK
PRINCIPLE AFFIRMED By Telegraph— Press Association i WELLINGTON. May 14. Following an address on vocational * education, by Mr G. M. Keys, of i Christchurch, the Educational Institute : carried a remit that in view of the ; number of students in evening classes, who were in urgent need of vocational assistance, permission should be granted for the extension of such activities to include evening departments: that the conference reaffirms the principle underlying vocational guidance, and respectfully urges that the Government should accept a greater share in this, as a national responsibility of prime importance, that the Minister be requested to arrange for some system of training that would provide for adequately trained careers of teachers. The report of the executive of the New Zealand institute was considered and discussed in committee, and adopted. .... A letter from the Federation of School Committees conveyed good wishes, and expressed a hope that the deliberations would result in an improvement of education generally. It was agreed that the incoming executive should be instructed to make a suitable reply.
