WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
ST. ANDREWS. The monthly meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the hail on Thursday, Mrs Mills presiding over a good attendance. Arrangements were made for the birthday party to be held in June. At the annual meeting a golden thread was formed through the Institute, the subject being, “Notable Women.” Mrs McLeod gave a most interesting demonstration, which was much appreciated and for which she was accorded a vote of thanks. Mr Gee gave a talk on “Samoa during the war,” and he also was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The competitions resulted: —Open jam tart: Miss W. Arden 1, Miss D. Bell 2. Mrs Bennett 3. Decorated 21b jar: Mrs Wimsett 1, Mesdames Bell and Johnstone equal 2. Guest towel: Mrs Foxon 1. Miss Russell 2. The hostesses were Mrs Mcllwrick, Mrs Johnstone, Mrs Hall and Miss Russell. HILTON The Hilton Women’s Institute held a successful dance in the Hilton Hall in aid of Institute funds. A pair of dressed fowls was won by Pat Burmester, of Geraldine. The music was supplied by a local orchestra, and extras w r ere played by Mr Meredith. The winners of the novelty dances were: Lucky spot, Mr A. Scott and Miss M. Wilkes; Monte Carlo, Mr C. Brenton and Mrs T. Beaven; first up in dance, Mrs Hall and Mr H. Hopkins.
