TO MOTHER

When the sun has crossed the distant hill And fades away from view. When the silent shadows softly creep, Dear Mother, I think of you. You gently raise the veil of years, I see you smiling through my tears; I hear your voice, I hear your prayer, I feel your presence everywhere, And know that you are near. All through the black and silent night When darkness reigns supreme. And the big white stars are shining, I can see you as I dream. "Tis then I feel you near me; You comfort and you cheer me; As your hand I press, your sweet caress Brings peace and joy and happiness— I know that you are near. —J. E. R.
